Where can I get a mortgage loan in Switzerland?

In Switzerland, the mortgage loan has been somewhat forgotten for many years. In contrast to Germany and Austria, where there are pawnbrokers “like Sand am Meer” and the pawn loan is well known, the Swiss know little about this practical option.

It is therefore not surprising that the possibility of mortgage lending by residents with a migration background in Switzerland and in particular at HouseFund is used more often. In any case, we suspect (there are no statistics on this) that this is because the mortgage loan is better known in the culture of origin than in Switzerland. After all, there is always a need for liquidity both in Switzerland and abroad.

Traditional pawn shops in Switzerland

Traditional pawn shops in Switzerland

At the beginning of the 20th century, pawnbrokers were regulated much more legally in Switzerland, and the cantons were able to enact pawnbroker laws, which in particular can prescribe a social or even non-profit purpose. It is therefore not surprising that there are almost no private pawnbrokers in Switzerland who have to earn money.

Here is a non-exhaustive overview of pawnbrokers in Switzerland, where customers receive a mortgage immediately for traditional pawn items such as gold, silver, jewelry and watches. The information can change at any time and is not guaranteed.

  • Pawnshop Purerich, which belongs to the Best Bank and operates the pawnbroker on a charitable basis
  • State pawnshop for pawn loans on behalf of the canton of Geneva, also charitable. Mortgage loans up to $ 250 are even free of interest.
  • IPawnshop institutions in Lugano, private pawn loans but monitored by the state

Furthermore, other pawnbrokers in Switzerland occasionally arise and close, but they have a hard time because the fees are often restricted by law to such an extent that it is not profitable or there are problems with the usury paragraph of the Criminal Code. An example of this type is the former pawnshop in Bern, which closed its gates again after a few years because the legally permitted pawn loan fees were simply too low to survive.

No gold, silver, jewelry or watch? Lend car!

No gold, silver, jewelry or watch? Lend car!

Fewer and fewer families and people still have gold, silver or valuable watches and jewelry, because these no longer have the same social meaning and benefit as for previous generations. One of the last valuable pledges is the car, the toeff, the camper or classic car, which many households have. This can be easily lent to a car pawnbroker. We have, of course, been a successful example of this ourselves since 2007, as evidenced by our good customer opinions. We are of course available at any time for a non-binding inquiry.
